505050 Taxis have launched a new service for the disabled section of the community. All operators within 505050 who have provided disabled accessible taxis under the regulations adopted by Dundee City Council have grouped together to form “outandabout” which is aimed at giving everyone the opportunity to get out and about with their families / carers. They can then enjoy outings and will choose when to go, where to go, and what to do!!

This service is primary aimed at assisting families / friends / carers with organising personal trips for housebound and/ or wheelchair users. The drivers have taken it upon themselves to provide this service since they applied for licences which would allow them to serve a market which was considered to be under-provided.

Under the scheme, anyone can phone 505050 to order a taxi for any type of outing. The company will provide a quotation for any excursion based on the customer’s own itinerary, and will ensure the driver remains at an agreed place in case the trip has to be curtailed for any reason. The driver will also provide a mobile telephone number to allow the customer to change the return pick-up point or time.
